I have not used the software, but just pluged it in to my Windows 7 and it worked.
I have used it to read the hard drive from my broken Windows Vista computer, and back up my computer.
Only things I dont like is it looks cheaply made and the harddrive is not help securley, BUT FOR THE MONEY ITS GREAT

like the other reviewer said, the power connector does not fit like it should, to connect to the pc you use a usb to mini usb which is a poor design and does not fit like it should, pins have become bent in my dock just from me moving the dock.

Customer rating: 2 out of 5 stars CF card slot issues and Win 7 64bit issues

I've had issues with windows 7 x64 not working well with the device and general construction feels cheap, compact flash card slot is very loose fitting which caused the pins to bend very easily, power socket isn't very secure. If you use compact flash a lot I wouldn't suggest it for this purpose.
